During today's video, I'm going to be referencing products in my haircare brand, Joiful Bee.

 1st Mistake

The first mistake that naturals make during wash day is that they do not properly cleanse their scalp during wash day. If you're somebody who wears a lot of gel, edge control, or put many products in your hair throughout the week, you want your hair and scalp to be clean. I properly cleansing my scalp by using a shampoo that sulfate-free. Additionally, I use the scalp massaging brush that comes in the Joiful Bee wash day kit. It has soft bristles which massage your scalp and pulls up the dirt. Another tip you can use to cleanse your scalp properly is using apple cider vinegar rinse. It's not necessary for every wash day, but that's something that I've done in the past that has helped me.

2nd Mistake

The second mistake that naturals are making during wash day, especially my low porosity naturals, is that they are not using heat to deep condition their hair. Your hair needs that extra treatment, that extra love, and care to ensure that moisture lasts throughout the week. If you have low porosity hair, it's harder for moisture to penetrate your strands, and heat is an element that can help your deep conditioner penetrate. Typically at a hair salon, they would put on a plastic cap and put you under the dryer for 30-45 minutes. So I wanted to make sure that you guys could do this at home. That's why I created the Joiful Bee microwavable deep conditioning cap. The cap goes over your plastic cap. You pop this in the microwave for like 45 seconds, and then you put this on your head for 15 minutes, and it heats your conditioner because it's made of flax seeds. It's the perfect at-home alternative to get that spa salon treatment.

3rd Mistake

The third mistake that naturals make during wash day is that they don't properly detangle. If you're detangling your curly, kinky, coily hair while it's dry with no product on that, you will have the worst time on wash day. To properly detangle my hair, I section my hair off into four sections. Then, I lightly finger detangle each section to ensure that any big knots or large chunks of shed hair are combed through. After finger detangling,  I use the Joiful Bee honeycomb detangling brush to detangle. This brush is my favorite because these bristles are soft and flexible 360, which means that it moves with your tangles. So if you're tangling your hair and you get to a tangle, instead of a regular brush ripping straight through it, this brush is going to flex, bend, and prevent breakage. For this brush to properly detangle, start in a vertical motion from the ends to the roots. Then brush horizontal and define your curls and make them pop.

4th Mistake

The fourth mistake that naturals make during wash day is using a regular bath towel to dry their hair. Regular bath cotton towels, especially for coily, kinkier textures, snag on your curls. The Joiful Bee microfiber turban towel has soft and small fibers. It also ties to your head. So you can wear this if you don't feel like styling your hair right away. It's also more absorbent than using a T-shirt and dries quickly.

5th Mistake

The final mistake that naturals make during wash day is applying products on dry hair. There are two ways you can do this the correct way, and I do both of these things. Before I dry my hair with my microfiber towel, I make sure my hair is wet and rinsed out, then I add my leave-in conditioner and oil. Then use the continuous spray bottle, which comes in the wash day kit. The great thing about the spray bottle is you don't have to keep pumping your hand to get your hair wet. One squirt disperses so much water in seconds.
