This was my first year attending Tyler the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival Festival and it was absolutely amazing. It was also my first time going to a music festival period. The 2-day carnival was filled with amazing live music, free rides, expected overly-priced food, and TONS of people!
Fashion at Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival 2016
One of the best things about Flog Gnaw was the fashion. Everyone came with their individual style: some wore head to toe Golf attire, but most just let their personality show through their festival fits.
What I wore on Day 1 of Camp Flog Gnaw
Day one I kept my outfit simple with a black crop top and button up that I eventually lost in the crowds during Chance the Rapper.
The Stages at Camp Flog Gnaw
There were two main stages (Camp and Flog) and there was also a DJ booth (Gnaw). Pictured above is the Camp stage during the first performance of Phony Ppl. By the last performances, the crowd extended well beyond the picnic tables.
Thankfully, I was able to bring my camera day 1 (despite the rules saying no cameras with removable lenses–day 2 they did not allow them). There were so many beautiful people that I met and got to photograph.
Best Performers at Camp Flog Gnaw 2016
Chance The Rapper: I knew for a fact that Chance would not disappoint. After endless weeks of playing Coloring Book on repeat, I was ready to finally see him live. He performed only songs from the new album which was great! I made it to the front of the stage during his performance, only to be squished up against the metal gate. After the performance, the situation became so violent and painful (as any festival would) I had to get the security guard to pull me out.
Erykah Badu: MY FIRST BADU-ISM EXPERIENCE CHANGED ME FOR THE BETTER AND SHE IS SO AMAZING. And of course, she came out 20 minutes late. The aura she puts out during her performances just draws you in as you seep into her melodies.
Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals: I was only familiar with one song by Anderson and I was not prepared for how he was going to KILL IT. Their set had amazing funky beats and great vocals to accompany.
